Events
The Events section lists a number of triggers that RPH uses to mark when a character should roleplay once the trigger has been pulled in game. Two columns accompany that list: the Delay column, where you may set the time in seconds for the roleplay action to fire after it’s action trigger has been pulled, and the Chance setting, where you may set the percentage chance for the roleplay action to fire, i.e., how often it should fire.
So, setting an Event to a Delay of 1 and the Chance to 100% will fire off the set RP action very quickly and every time after its’ trigger has been pulled. Setting an Event to 10 and 50% will fire the RP action well after the trigger has been pulled, and only half of the time it does so.
The items in the Events column will of course vary depending on your character’s race, class, and which profile(s) you choose to use in the Phrase List section. Events which are set to trigger with an action show up bright green, while Events which have no action set for it to trigger show up pale green. As in the pic above, Events which you set to 0% (never to fire) show up red.
The red button above the Events listed changes the list to show every Event which can have a trigger set to them [All (Class)], or to show which Events do have a trigger set to them [All with RP's]. Once the player has set actions for all the Events wanted for the current character, this toggle makes it easier to see only those Events the current character will be using most often.
Now, you may be asking yourself, “OK, so how do I set an action for these Events?” If you’ll bear with me, I’m getting to that soon, as it’ll take some explanation.
Spells
The Spells section is set up very similar to Events. Don’t let the section name mislead you; even though it’s called Spells, it’s really meant in a generic sense, in that here you may find ’spells’ for both spellcasters and non-spellcasters that may be set to trigger an RP action. The Delay and Chance work the same as in the Events section. The red button above the Spell action here will cycle through the following filters: All, All Known, All with RP’s. and Known with RP’s. Take a look through each list and you’ll understand the differences easily.
Phrase List
The Phrase List section shows all of the race and class profiles available in RPH, from which you may pick and choose for your character’s use. This list basically show each .lua file housed in the main RPH folder, updated with the Draenei and Blood Elf races for the Burning Crusade addition to WoW. This section is important in that one of the neat tricks of RPH may be manipulated here. Say you roll up an Orc, but don’t want to play it as the stereotypical dunderheaded baffoon who can barely speak and is only good at swinging a sword. For a quick & easy fix, click to this section, uncheck the box next to Orc, and check the box for Gnome, and you’ve instantly switched your Orc to sound and play like he’s a genius!
Now, this is just a quick fix, as I said. To me, it doesn’t work well in the long run, unless and until you delve down to the .lua files. It’s much better to take the time to set each .lua file up with emotes and macros for your own characters, thereby giving them each their own individual personality. Read on to see how that’s done!
RPH is a wonderful addon indeed. I am using it for several weeks now and there are three little points I can add to this really good article out of my own experience:
Before you use it with a german client you should clear all “RESTR”-restrictions in the lua-files. (Some sayings and emotes are restricted on human, ork, troll etc.) and for some reason this restrictions don’t work in German, in spite of the translation. (In English there is no problem. I don’t know about other languages.) You get something like “Du bist der abscheulichste Tote, den ich je gesehen habe. RESTR.UNDEAD”. Looks a bit funny. Only delete the restrictions and leave the phrases (or change them, if they really won’t fit for some targets), then it works.
And in case you choose to play a bloodelf-Paladin, you really, really should delete the “For the alliance!”-shout in the paladin.lua
!
Last thing is (for people who, like me, switch between servers with different languages): You can not tell RPH to produce German Phrases while playing with an English Client ant vice versa. The “Language”-Button in the options-interface only changes between Common, Orkish and so on. Because of that make sure you use the matching client for the Server you play on, if RPH is activated.
Fantastic! Thanks very much for those tips, leseratte! I only use the English version, and I did fail to mention that RPH also supports German, French, and Spanish.
