Jim, this is a great site and I enjoy the postings.
Here’s my thoughts concerning role-playing a Blood Elf priest in a Horde world. Is it my imagination, but are many folks are playing Blood Elves as superficial, vain and self important types? Certainly all the Blizzard emotes for Blood Elves reinforce that. As a Holy Spec’d priest, this isn’t the path I want to go with Psychae. Do you know if there is lore with the High Elf/Blood Elf background I could delve into that would make her less mainstream for the “easy” Blood Elf sterotype? Or do I go with my own inclinations anyway?
Psychae/Earthen Ring
PS I have a pen and paper RP background from several years back, but haven’t tried RP in Wow until recently. It’s fun and has a theatrical feel to it using avatars as real-time actors in a storyline. But it isn’t easy!

Thanks for the questions Psychae. I do hope you’ll forgive me for not publishing your entire post here, but I think the other questions you had could best be answered in game. You know how and where to contact me there, so please do so!
The question you asked is very similar to one I have been asked more than once, and quite a few times this week alone. So, I want to address it specifically here and now.
Do you know if there is lore with the High Elf/Blood Elf background I could delve into that would make her less mainstream for the “easy” Blood Elf sterotype?
Allow me to broaden that question: Where can I find a quality place online from whence to gather and study the lore of all the races in WoW?
BlizzPlanet covers all the games and various products that Blizzard has and is creating overall. News and materials for all their computer games, trading card games, and their d20 system-based Warcraft: The Roleplaying Game, can be found within. A great place to find that perfect gift for your favorite WoW fan.
For our purposes, though, scroll down the site page, paying close attention to the menus along the left. Almost from top to the very bottom, you’ll find links to I’d say everything you ever wanted to know about the WoW history and lore, but just didn’t know where to look. Now you do!
Of primary interest is the BlizzPlanet Roleplay Association, housing the online message boards of the Lore Forums and the RP-PVP online community. The information you can get there is absolutely invaluable for any and every WoW RP’er. Another page not to be missed is the Warcraft Timeline, ” an overview of the major events in Azeroth’s distant and recent history”. Just take a good hour and peruse through the entire site, and I’ll bet you make BlizzPlanet one of your top WoW sites, if it’s not already.
“WoWWiki is a wiki dedicated to cataloguing [sic] Blizzard Entertainment’s Warcraft Universe (with a focus, though not priority, on World of Warcraft), covering the entire Warcraft series of games, RPG reference books, strategy guides, novels and other sources.”
WoWWiki is another groovy site I visit quite often for RP purposes, mainly to seek out general information under the Character and World sections. WoWWiki is also where I can directly answer your question, Psychae, with these two links:
The other races are also highly detailed there, along with hundreds of other topics, all reader-submitted and moderated. This is the site for serious, hardcore WoW loremasters and players, and a great resource!
Well, those are the sites I would recommend to you and anyone else likewise interested in learning about WoW lore and history. To those looking to really add RP’ing depth to their characters, knowing and using lore and history are two of the best things you could use in game for that exact purpose. Hope that helps!
(So, did it help? Do you know of another quality website dedicated to WoW lore and history? How are you using these elements in your own RP? Share your thoughts and Comments below!)
Ya know, an entire race can’t be too stuck up as they have to grow up looking down on SOMEone.
For my part I’m playing a blood elf who’s a bit less confident and a bit cowed by her family mostly on account of the fact that she’s magically deficient. She’s a rogue (the only non-caster she can be), so I play her as the one her sisters always picked on and looked down on.
I figure that if her sisters are used to looking down on the other races, they had to start by looking down on those immediately around them.
@ Rorlins, a nice background. I can say I have not seen a person play it like that. I hope it is a succes
I am new to RPing a healing class, but I have chosen to play a Blood Elf Priest. I am trying to break away from the normal things I see. The Dark and ‘Stuck up’ ‘Nobles’.
Just shy of adulthood. She is meek and quiet which I do not see many being so.
She has taken it upon herself to study the worship of the Holy Light to try and break away from the arcane magic that is consuming her race.Yet she is frightened to abandon her sources of power. So she is torn between following the Holy Light and the Magic that controls her.
Hopefully I can pull this off without breaking too many Blood Elf Rules *Cackles evily*
I play a Blood Elf priest on a non-RP server. I am currently planning to create a Blood Elf Priest (or maybe a mage..) on an RP server. I’m still deciding what my background will be. I’m thinking that maybe I should keep the same kind of “I’m better than you” Thing that the Blood Elves seem to have, but add a sense of “I’m a non-judgmental priest” Kind of thing.. I don’t know if this is possible or not, she may have multiple personalities. (hehehe)
But if I decide to make a mage, she’ll probably be some sort of power-hungry fire mage bent on domination (sounds fun, no?
)
Any suggestions on my priest background dilemma? I’m kinda stuck… Ehe…
Thanks.

Thanks for the comment Yuna! The first thing that comes to my mind about a BE Priest is to play up the priest sanctity / magic addiction dichotomy. With that, you have a priest who’s struggling to be pious and virtuous while at the same time fighting to control a powerful addiction. Another possibility is to RP one who has (somehow) gained control over that addiction, and is now on a mission to help all other BE’s with theirs. That is one I’ve thought of rolling myself, and tossing in my own personal elements of Zen and Taoism, turning a BE priest into my version of a WoW monk. Does any of that spark any ideas? I hope so!
